There is the assumption by many people that to be a Democrat must mean that you are pro-choice. This is not a requirement. There are pro life democrats and there are pro choice republicans. You can become active in supporting pro life democrats. You can find their website here http://www.democratsforlife.org/index.php?option=com_frontpage & Itemid=1

They have created the 95-10 initiative. This was taken from their website.

"A comprehensive plan that will reduce the number of abortions by 95% in the next 10 years by promoting abstinence, personal responsibility, adoptions and support for women and families who are facing unplanned pregnancy. The 95-10 Initiative seeks to reduce the number of abortions in through Federal, state and local efforts as well as support and encouragement to volunteers and dedicated people on the front lines helping pregnant women. Much attention has been given to ending abortion or keeping it legal. We believe that we must do more to reduce the abortion rate by helping and supporting pregnant women. "

Perhaps instead of alienating Democrats the pro-life religious right should start working with them. The pro-life movement would love to make an amendment to the constitution banning abortion.

What does it take to amend the constitiution.

  1. Congress proposes amendments.

As is the case with the flag burning amendment, both houses of Congress approve by two-thirds votes a resolution calling for the amendment. The resolution does not require the president's signature. To become effective, the proposed amendment must then be "ratified" or approved by the legislatures of three-fourths of the states. Congress typically places a time limit of seven years for ratification by the states.
  2. The states propose amendments.

The legislatures of two-thirds of the states vote to call for a convention at which constitutional amendments can be proposed. Amendments proposed by the convention would again require ratification by the legislatures of three-fourths of the states.
What you find is that there must be bi-partisan support. Yet the religious right continues to encourage an "us against them" mentality. Perhaps the best method would be to embrace the left. Make a persuasive argument not playing on their emotions but by expressing valid concerns for the sanctity of life.

If you need evidence that what the religious right's methods are not working and alienating the center, which by the way will be necessary to win any election you can just point to the huge number of high profile Republicans flooding to support Barack Obama. There are far fewer going the other way.

When people come at me and try to reach only my emotions I immediately become suspicious. Playing on my emotions to me states that there must be at least some issues with the validity of their argument. It forces me to look further.

Many that are arguing the case that you must vote for a pro-life president know absolutely nothing about their own state candidates.

The Supreme Court does allow the states to impose restrictions. Some states have enacted laws greatly reducing the number of abortions with banning abortion.

Few people know about the pro-life legislation in their own states. Real and valuable changes have been made and will be made in the next years.

How many of you know your states current pro-life legislation laws? What is your states stance on public funding laws, informed consent laws and parental involvement laws. Do you even know what I am referring to? Many I am sure will not.

Certain people are not putting all their hopes in overturning Roe V Wade and then waiting until the next Presidential election. They are doing things today within their own state.

"In fairness, it should be noted that Kmiec, Cafardi, and others who are supporting Obama make one valid point. That is that the reversal of Roe vs. Wade will not be a panacea for the pro-life movement. Indeed, a reversal of Roe would simply give states the ability to restrict abortion. Not surprisingly, many states would not change their abortion policies at all if Roe were reversed."

You can promote pro-life legislation in your own state. You can vote people into the legislature in your own state. How many of you have taken the time to find the stance of your own state politicians on abortion. If you answer that you have not then you are not doing justice to the cause. Because they can make changes now and not later.

Irregardless of who wins this election I will still have to do the same thing when I wake up in the morning. I will still be required by God to inform my family, friends, and community that all life is valuable. That life begins at conception. That abortion is not an acceptable option.

I will still tell them that God has provided his laws for us in the bible and that we must follow them whether or not Man's laws are in agreement.

From Galatians 2:21 I do not nullify the grace of God; for if justification comes through the law, then Christ died for nothing.

I hesitated to use a quote from scripture because I am sure that others will throw quotes from scripture and pick and choose the ones that work best for their argument. I will be told that I do not understand or what God meant was something else entirely. Religious scholars differ on the intent of many various passages. We could go round and round many times over until the end of time. In the end you do what is right based upon your personal experience and relationship with God. It would be tragic if that personal relationship with God did not exist or was unnecessary because we required the knowledge and expertise of a third party such as our pastor.

I will be maligned for my views no doubt by many. I will be accused of being under the influence of the Devil. Perhaps some will find me well-meaning but confused.

I will be accused of rationalizing my ideas to help me sleep at night. Every one is guilty of rationalizing or justifying their ideas.

There are many, many millions of Christians out there who will be voting for the Democratic ticket.

No man is perfect. No platform is entirely biblical. To justify voting for a candidate based upon one issue because it is biblical means that you are voting for all of that candidates opinions and somehow justifying them in Gods eyes even though they are not biblical.

Tell me you are voting for a candidate because you like their stance on pro-life issues and only that reason then I will have no argument with you. Tell me you are voting for a candidate because God wants that person in office and then and only then will I have issue.
