Kentucky Senator Jim Bunning Says No To Extension of Unemployment Benefits

Senator Jim Bunning from Kentucky last week decided to block a vote on a bill which among other things contained measures to extend unemployment and Cobra benefits to those who were set to lose them on Sunday February 28th.
His reason was that he wanted the 10 billion dollar price tag paid for before it was brought to a vote.
I am no fan of Jim Bunning. He has demonstrated little evidence of competence in his job.
In the middle of his one man mission to leave 400,000 people with no income and put thousands of more people out of work, Jim Bunning expressed frustration that he could not leave to watch the Kentucky basketball game.
It is more than a little shocking that the plight of all those people was so minimized by his comments. I suppose though, that I should not be surprised by this, but rather that he cared enough at all to miss his basketball game.
I do not discount the need to pay for programs. We should pay for additional expenses.
This belief however does not discount the suffering that many are going through. This belief does not discount that many people needed this vote to take place.
It is true that most Democrats and in fact many Republicans will be glad to see Bunning retire at the end of his term.
I daresay, there will be many Americans that will hold the same sentiment.
