Should Sarah Palin Share Any Responsibility For The Shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords?

Liberal Fix
I have no love for Sarah Palin. Anyone who knows me, knows this to be true. I would like to clarify though that I do not think that she is purposely evil and I do not think she really wanted someone to shoot Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
I do, however think that she has been one of the driving forces for the inflammatory rhetoric that is taking place in the United States. She loves the catchy phrases and any reference to weapons.
She loves to move her legions by encouraging them not to retreat, but rather to "reload". Jared Loughner did attempt to reload. He was stopped by three brave citizens. The carnage that he wrought would affect no others. Yet his actions would indefinitely impact the lives of more than a half dozen families who have lost loved ones or are nursing their wounded family members back to physical health.
Was the use of crosshairs on Sarah Palin's "gunsights" map irresponsible? Yes of course it was. If this tragedy had not happened it would still have been irresponsible. Was it despicable? Yes of course it was, just as it was when ultra-conservative talk show host Elisabeth Hasselbeck called it such.
If there was no problem with the symbols on the map, then why did Sarah Palin have her "gunsights" map, as she liked to call it, taken down after the incident? If there was no real problem with it then she should have just left it up. Surely she was not worried about what the lamestream media would say. She has shown no regard for it in her recent history.
All early evidence suggests that Jared Loughner was an extremely unstable and unhinged man. It seems that he was capable of great destruction even without sufficient provocation. I have not seen any suggestion that Loughner was a Palin disciple or an active Tea Party member. I have heard that he was very anti-government and very concerned with the Constitution which would suggest at the very least an affiliation with the Tea Party. I would say that the odds are in favor of the fact that he had seen Ms. Palin's "gunsights map".
Was Ms. Palin directly responsible for 6 murders and the assassination attempt on an American Congresswoman? No.
Is she guilty of poor judgment, inciting anger, irresponsible behavior, being self-righteous and possessive of a Herculean sized amount of conceit? Absolutely.
Ms. Palin has never been able to do any wrong with her supporters. Anytime she appears to look like a fool, she will turn it around, shrug it off, and use it to make her audience laugh. If the media attacks her then they are just pawns of the liberals. If Republicans attack her then they are just scared of her. All her supporters need to see is that annoying, patronizing wink of hers and all is well.
Hopefully at the very least she will learn that her image is capable of being tarnished and that she cannot spew angry, vile rhetoric and lies out of her mouth without possibility of consequences.
Just because a woman says she is righteous does not mean that she is. Just because a woman tells you that she believes in the Constitution does not mean that she understands anything about the Constitution or more importantly that no one else understands the Constitution. Just because a person waves a flag around, does not mean that they are good for America.
Hopefully people will also realize that just because a woman can shoot a caribou on television with the help of a few handlers does not mean that she is qualified to be President.
We cannot let Ms. Palin laugh this off!

Top-level comments on this article: (3 total)I guess that depends on your definition of evil. Irrespective of the attempted murder of Congresswoman Giffords, because it will be awhile before we know the facts of these murders, Sarah's need to incite the most vulgar inclinations of indignant individuals character in order to advance her visions of grandeur, are despicable at best, reprehensible, and now possibly even overtly criminally negligent. The sad part is the entire conservative party is riding the crest of discriminate fervor produced by her ilk using the same tactics that the white supremacists use to incite the violent, if necessary, takeover of the social discourse and manipulation of every citizens constitutional right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Please log in to respond to this comment.David, I tend to agree with you. I tried to be a bit more delicate with my words. It is a hard thing to do when discussing Ms. Palin. Yet you have voiced your opinion and the opinion of many others rather eloquently. "Is she guilty of poor judgment, inciting anger, irresponsible behavior, being self-righteous and possessive of a Herculean sized amount of conceit? Absolutely." Nicely said! I also don't think she was directly responsible, but she contributed in a real way. Please log in to respond to this comment.
Hi Dan.
What scares me about Palin is that so many people do not seem to see the problem with her. And that so many people seem to support her. I'm not all knowing, but I am a pretty good judge of character and when I see that smug self satisfied grin on her face it sends a tremor of fear down my spine. The problem with Palin as I see it is that she thinks beyond all doubt that she is right. In my book, only the insane are that certain ... of anything. I don't hate her or wish her dead, but I for certain don't want her having anything to do with running my country.
You know, I own a gun and I am pro personal gun ownership, but the flip and offhanded remarks Palin makes about guns and their use and all that are totally inappropriate. I'm sorry, I can't really describe what about her attitude bothers, but it does. Well, now I've done it. Expressed a pretty strong opinion against Palin. But it's my truth and your article made me feel that I needed to say it. Powerful stuff, hunh, the written word?
Interesting article and well written.
