Republican Claims of Unfair Bias In Labor Union / Democratic Party Relationship is Ironic

It just does not seem right to Republicans. They say it is a conflict of interest. A unholy alliance.

How can anyone possibly think that it is right for labor unions to fund the campaigns of Democratic candidates when they will be sitting across the table from each other after the election, negotiating for the pay and benefits of the union's members.

I know it must seem really odd to Republicans for politicians to be willing to pay workers a living wage or even, dare I say it, advocate that government workers which includes teachers, police officers and fire fighters, be able to live in a manner that would befit their contribution to society and the greater good.

Meanwhile, when Republicans assume office they immediately and shamelessly taking care of their biggest campaign donors, corporations. They do this by giving them billions upon billions worth of taxes.

These tax breaks either create deficits or increase deficits that Republican's pay for by reducing or eliminating that are designed to help the middle class, the poor, senior citizens and students.

They justify their tactics by asserting that corporations will now be able to create more jobs. The money and benefits will all "trickle" down to us little people.

Down here in southeastern Indiana we have a special phrase for this. We call this talking out of both sides of their mouth.

Unfortunately all evidence is to the contrary. The Bush tax cuts in anemic job growth. In 2010 corporations sat on nearly 2 trillion in cash while waiting for the economy to improve. They also invested their money overseas in economies where people actually have money to what they are selling.

It is time for many of us to stop what the Republicans are selling.

Let us be clear about something. WE are the job creators. WE are consumers. WE are the ones who buy the products that factories make. WE keep the lights on in those factories and WE keep the lines humming for three shifts.

When the middle class is strong and growing we provide the incentive for corporations and the wealthy to invest in our economy and our country.

Until our leaders stop making sure we get less and less of the pie so that the wealthy can have more and more, we are simply in for more of the same.

Down here in southeastern Indiana we have a name for that as well. It is good old fashioned horse sense.
